The objects recovered
from the ocean's bottom were witnesses to the dawn of the 20th century,
life aboard an ocean liner, both luxurious and ordinary, and the
diversity of its passengers. This exhibition presents a large collection
of authentic objects, some of which were brought to the surface
thanks to the mechanical arms of manned submarines (especially,
the Nautile). After being submerged under the ocean for decades
at 3,800 feet, the recovered objects were treated with electrochemical
techniques to safeguard them from degradation and decomposition
on contact with air. |
